THE producers of a film that takes 'a nostalgic look at 90’s Birkenhead through the eyes of a child and with the backdrop of Oasis’ and Blur’s 'Battle of Britpop' are holding auditions for its main characters.

Shooting for Wonderwall, described as 'the first ever UK/French co-production to be shot in Birkenhead' is set to take place in October.

Set in Birkenhead in 1995, it is about nine-year-old Siobhan and big brother, Rory. Left to their own devices, they roam the streets with their mates, killing time before that night's Top of The Pops, where they hope their heroes from Oasis will beat Blur and win The Battle of Britpop.

But after standing up to Rory, Siobhan runs off into the night lost and alone. Wandering around town, desperate not to miss the chart battle of the decade, and finds herself thrown into the strange world of adults. Lost and alone, Her curiosity leads her on an epic adventure where she ultimately learns she can count on herself.

Its producers are holding auditions to cast the following roles:

Siobhan, described as 'a bright and imaginative 9/10 year old'. She looks up to her older brother more than anyone and follows him around everywhere. She’s used to hanging out with the older kids, is daring and has a stubborn side.

Rory is a mischievous and funny 11/12 years old. He’s good at telling stories and jokes and is a bit of a leader. He loves his little sister but can also be tough on her, especially when she embarrasses him in front of his mates.

No previous acting experience is required. The producers 'are keen to cast local kids with Birkenhead/Scouse accents'.

Director Roisin Burns said: "I really wanted to explore some of my strongest childhood memories and talk about what it was like growing up in a working-class neighbourhood, hanging out with your siblings and your mates, riding around town on your bikes, killing time and waiting for Top Of The Pops to come on so you can find out if your heroes from Oasis will manage to beat Blur.

"It's about a little girl with a big imagination who goes an epic night time adventure, wandering around town and discovering the strange and sometimes scary world of grownups.

"I wanted to explore the love/hate relationship that siblings can have and also write a love letter to my hometown of Birkenhead."

Roisin continued: "It goes without saying that it’s really important for me to cast local kids who have a Birkenhead/Liverpool accent and a strong attachment to our town.

"People from Birkenhead and Liverpool, and The North more generally, are still massively underrepresented on-screen.

"But we have lots of important, funny and heart-warming stories to tell the world."

If you are interested in auditioning for the roles, send your name, age, location, contact details and a photo to castingwonderwall2024@gmail.com

Auditions will take place for successful applicants on August 1 in Birkenhead.
