A WEEK-LONG arts festival featuring a performance by '90s chart-toppers Space is on in New Brighton from today (July 8).

Taking place until Saturday (July 13), the New Brighton Arts Festival promises an 'exciting, week-long celebration of the arts' at various locations in the seaside town.

Events across the week will range from choir performances, a commissioned piece of theatre about New Brighton, a comedy night, an evening of spoken word, a showcase of bands from across the borough and will finish with a free family festival in the Victoria Quarter on Saturday, July 13 11am-9pm.

Liverpool band Space, whose hits included Female of the Species and The Ballad of Tom Jones will perform that day. 

There will be two live stages of music, dance and entertainment; a kids and creative zone, both with a wealth of free activities for children, there will be live street art being created by famous street artists, performances from the renowned Samba Livre Liverpool Brazilian Dancers, the Katumba Drummers and Movema Dance who will be hosting live dance workshops.

D-Day shows

HESWALL Musical Society is holding two concerts to commemorate World War one and World War II, especially 80th anniversary of D-Day. Taking place on Friday, July 19 at 7.30pm at Heswall British Legion on Pensby Road in Heswall and Saturday, July 20 (2.30pm) at Heswall Methodist Church on Telegraph Road. Theatre group

THE Greasby Players are looking for new members. A spokesperson for the group said: "We are a very friendly group and we laugh a lot!  We love doing comedy but can perform other types of plays.  We use our performances to raise money for various charities. Made in Dagenham

LISCARD-based ST Paul's Musical Theatre Company is in rehearsal for its next production, Made in Dagenham - The Musical.

Staged at the Gladstone Theatre in Port Sunlight from October 16 to 19, it is inspired by a true story and based on the hit movie. It is described as 'an uplifting British musical comedy about friendship, love and the importance of fighting for what is right and shows how ordinary people can do extraordinary things when they stand together.
