A MAN has been arrested and a suspected stolen bike seized following an incident in Prenton.

Police received reports that electric bikes at Duck Pond Lane, off Woodchurch Road, were being ridden dangerously and causing members of the public to fear for their safety.

The incident happened at about 6.45pm on Wednesday, July 3).

There were unconfirmed reports that those on the bikes were in possession of weapons.

The bikes were seen going into woodland off Vyner Road South in Oxton.

A man was detained by Matrix officers nearby and a suspected stolen Sur-Ron bike seized.

A 19-year-old man from Beechwood was arrested on suspicion of affray, theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous driving, driving without insurance and driving without a licence.

He remains in custody for questioning.

Enquiries are ongoing.

Detective Inspector Phil Ryan said: "This incident will have been concerning to witness and we are determined to find all of those responsible.

"We think that, given the hour, passers-by on foot or in vehicles may have captured this incident, and such evidence could be vital. If you were in the area at around 6.45pm and saw bikes being driven in a dangerous manner, please come forward.

"We will act on all information provided to investigate this incident and put those responsible before the courts. Likewise, if you know about the storage of suspected stolen electric bikes then let us know so we can remove vehicles before they put people at risk."
