VOTERS will be heading to more than 100 polling stations across Wirral later this week for the general election on July 4.
Candidates over the last month have been campaigning across the borough hoping to win votes to become their area’s next MP in Parliament. Candidates from Wirral are standing in four different constituencies with boundary changes meaning some will be voting for a different MP than they did at the last general election in 2019.
Three new constituencies Wirral West, Wallasey and Birkenhead will exist entirely within the Metropolitan Borough of Wirral governed by Wirral Council. However two local authority wards Bromborough and Eastham become part of the new Ellesmere Port and Bromborough constituency.
Polls suggest the Labour Party are on course to win every seat but they are facing challenges from the Conservatives and Greens as well as candidates from Reform, Liberal Democrats, Workers Party, the Freedom Alliance, and one independent.
It will also be the first general election where voters will be required to take ID with them when they go to vote. More information on this can be found here – https://www.electoralcommission.org.uk/voting-and-elections/voter-id/accepted-forms-photo-id.
When you get to your polling station on July 4, give your name and address to the staff inside the polling station when you arrive. There are 113 polling stations in total.
You’ll then need to show your photo ID and will be given a ballot paper containing a list of the people, parties or options you can vote for.
Voters will be sent a poll card just before the election telling them when to vote and at which polling station. You can only vote at the polling station location on your card but you do not have to take this with you.
If you have not received a poll card but think you should, contact your local Electoral Registration Office. Polling stations will be open from 7am to 10pm on July 4.
