THE globe-trotting work of a Wirral primary school has received 'Gold Level' recognition in the prestigious Global School Awards.

The honour recognises Bidston Avenue Primary School's 'long-term, whole-school commitment to creative, impactful, and innovative global education'.

The Global School Awards celebrate achievements of schools that excel in developing and embedding the key values, wide-reaching impact, and benefits of global education.

Bidston Avenue's work includes travelling to China with three groups of Birkenhead children to visit their sister school in Taicang.

They have visited Shanghai and Taicang three times. Taicang, a city in the Jiangsu area outside Shanghai, has links to Wirral as a twinned city and was visited by Wirral Council leaders in the past.

Children and staff from Taicang Experimental School have visited Bidston Avenue many times and a new group arrive this month.

On hearing the news that Bidston Avenue Primary School had achieved the Gold Level of the Global School Award, headteacher Stuart Brady, said: "We are delighted to be presented with this award.
