THE dedication and hardwork of staff at a Wirral primary school was praised as part of 'thank a teacher' day celebrations.

Pupils and their parents nominated staff at Mendell Primary School in Bromborough for a star of thanks as part of the national event.

Each star came with a personalised message and a special mention was also made to the kitchen and Esther, the cleaner.

Catherine O’Neill Edwards, headteacher, provided an assortment of sweet treats for her fabulous team to say thank you.

She said: "I am so lucky and privileged to be part of such a passionate team who put the children at the heart of everything we do.”

This year, National Thank a Teacher Day focused on the support staff as well as the teachers. It was important to highlight all who make a significant impact on a school’s success.

Chair of Governors, Jenny Gillies, wrote a personalised thank you card for every single member of the team.

Some of the messages included: "what an asset you are to the office and to school’ and ‘since you arrived, SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilites) has gone to a next level. Thank you for your effort, skill and general contribution to school life".

The school joined the Leading Learners Multi Academy Trust in January.

Yvonne Brown, chief executive, said: “I am deeply proud of Mendell’s heartfelt celebration of Thank a Teacher Day.

"Recognising the unwavering dedication of our teaching and support staff is essential, and it is truly inspiring to see the community come together to express their gratitude.”
