THE garden of a family hub in Seacombe has been given a makeover in a community project involving a group of Wirral-based students and Merseyside Fire Service.

As part of a personal development course, funded by the Prince's Trust, a group of 11 students aged between 16 and 23 have transformed the outdoor space for families to enjoy.

The course, delivered by Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service, ends with an accredited qualification in employment, teamwork and community skills.

Working in all weathers, the students have made the garden "a great space for the families and children that attend the hub".

The job involved clearing away weeds and then giving play equipment a much needed paint job.

Congratulating the team for its work, Caroline, Programme Support Worker for Wallasey Princes Trust said: "Our students are doing a 12-week personal development course for anyone who's 16 to 25 looking for employability, work on social skills or any educational development that they require.

"Part of the course is to do community project in which they do something for the community. This helps them develop management skills, teamwork and leadership responsibilities as well."

Seacombe Family Hub, which was launched in August last year, is one of a number across the borough bringing together a range of services for families and children.

The Hub brings together maternity services, health visitors, library and foodbank services and children’s centre activities.

The aim is to make services easier to navigate and ensure families receive the right service at the right time.
