A CAR fire in Bidston earlier this morning (Thursday, June 20) is believed to have been started deliberately.
At around 12.10am, emergency services were called to Curlender Close following reports that a vehicle was on fire.
Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service (MFRS) attended and distinguished the fire, which caused significant damage to the vehicle, but thankfully no one was hurt during the incident.
A joint MFRS and police investigation is underway to establish the cause of the fire but it is suspected to be arson.
Detective chief inspector Peter Stephenson said: "To deliberately start a fire is incredibly dangerous and this incident could have been a lot worse.
"This has understandably caused concern for the people who live in the area, but please be assured that we are taking this extremely seriously and are determined to find the person responsible.
"If you live in the area and saw anything suspicious last night, please let us know.
"Similarly, if you have CCTV cameras, please check them to see if you captured anything that could help our ongoing investigation."
