WIRRAL Mencap is hosting a series of events to celebrate Learning Disability Week.

The theme of this year's week, which starts on Monday (June 17) is "Do You See Me?" and is about being seen, valued and heard.

Wirral Mencap is celebrating this week with various activities to get involved in.

Details of what is happening are below:

A group of learning disability advocates and Trainers from the charity will be in the reception at Arrowe Park Hospital on Monday (June 17), spreading the word about the importance of Hospital Health Passports. They will be talking to patients, patient families and carers, and hospital staff about Health Passports. What they are, who should have one, and why.

More information about Health Passports is available on the national Mencap website: https://www.mencap.org.uk/advice-and-support/health-coronavirus/health-guides

A spokesperson from Wirral Mencap said: "This has been a key theme in the hospital’s Patient Experience Strategy and ongoing improvement programme. The aim is to raise awareness about how Health Passports help people with learning disabilities get the reasonable adjustments and care they need while in hospital.

"Please come and say hello if you are at Arrowe Park that day."

On Tuesday, June 18, the charity is hosting a Tea Party at Hamilton Square from 11am to 2pm. The group will provide some of its own fresh bakes and manning the stalls.

A spokesperson for the charity said: "Anyone is welcome to stop by and enjoy some cake, refreshments, and a chance to try their luck on the tombola. There will even be a performance from local choir Hands and Voices."

The charity's Gateway Awards Party takes place on Thursday, June 20.

The spokesperson continued: "Every year we celebrate all the hard work of the people we have supported to complete their Gateway Awards over the last year.

"This is an invite only event, where we celebrate everyone's individual achievements. Whether they are collecting Bronze, Silver or Gold! It is an amazing experience and great show of achievement.

"Of course, there is a big presentation and an even bigger party afterwards!"

To round off the Learning Disability Week celebrations, you can join Wirral Mencap for a fun day in Vale Park, New Brighton on Saturday, June 22.

It promises performances from 'some brilliant local musicians and choirs, get involved with some Euros-themed football games, and take a chance on the raffle'.

There is no entry cost for the funday, but the activities on the day will have a very small charge so bring some cash with you.
