A MAN was treated for a leg injury following an incident at Cammell Laird shipyard today (Thursday, June 6).

Emergency services were called to the site in Birkenhead at around 9.13am,to reports that a report that a man had sustained an injury to his leg at the bottom of a ship.

Police attended, along with two fire engines and Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service's search and rescue team. An air ambulance was also in attendance, but not needed.

A Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson told the Globe: "This was a rescue from depth, with one casualty conscious and breathing trapped 30m below in a ship.

"The casualty was secured on a stretcher, and crews utilised equipment on site and a RAG system to recover them to shore side.

A Cammell Laird spokesperson told the Globe: "Paramedics were called to Cammell Laird today after a sub-contractor sustained a minor injury onboard a vessel.

"The individual was treated at the scene. We would like to thank the attending paramedics for their support."
