A MAN has been arrested after a stolen motorbike seen “riding at speed” was seized in Wirral.

At around 7.55pm on Tuesday, June 4 a man was seen riding a green Suzuki bike at speed on Pasture Road in Moreton.

The bike was then seen being pushed to the back of a property on Berrylands Road.

Officers seized the bike and detained the man inside.

A 19-year-old man from Moreton was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence, theft of a motor vehicle and use of a motor vehicle on a road without third party insurance.

He has been released under investigation.

Chief Inspector Derek Riley said: “We regularly deploy uniformed and plain clothes officers on foot patrols, quad bikes and off-road bikes in our parks and open spaces to identify the illegal and dangerous use of vehicles such as this, especially during the warmer months.

“We know how frustrating the anti-social use of motorbikes, electric bikes and mopeds can be for our communities. The offenders who ride them anti-socially not only pose a threat to other road users and pedestrians, they risk their own safety by riding too fast, through red lights and often without a helmet.

“We regularly attend reports of incidents to prevent those on the bikes from posing any further risk to our communities, as well as reports of where such bikes are being stored so they can be removed from those who ride them so recklessly.”

Anyone with any information about the illegal use and storage of bikes is asked to call Merseyside Police on 101, DM @MerPolCC or call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
