A FATHER and son duo from Wirral have successfully reached the top of Mount Everest it has been confirmed.

It is understood Paul Anderson, 56, and his son, Aaron Anderson, 22, from West Kirby, made it to the summit on Monday (May 27) with the pair sharing pictures of their achievement on social media.

Paul, a Partner at Stockford Anderson Commercial Real Estate, and Aaron, an aspiring mountaineer and guide, took on the incredible challenge to raise vital funds for Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity.

Wirral Globe:

The father and son team are aiming to raise enough money to fund two new Admiral Nurses – specialist dementia nurses who offer life-changing support to families affected by all forms of dementia.

They have dedicated their achievement to Paul’s mother, who has vascular dementia and lives in a care home in Hoylake.

Paul said: "Having witnessed the daily challenges of living with dementia, we want to ensure that more people with the diagnosis and their families can access the support of an Admiral Nurse in the local area."

The pair, who are avid and experienced climbers, took the same route as Wirral climbers George Mallory and Sandy Irvine did in 1924, just days before the 100-year anniversary of the British mountaineers’ final and fatal attempt at reaching the summit.

The Chinese Tibetan Mountain Association confirmed that Paul and Aaron are the first ever father and son to summit Everest together from Tibet.

They are expected back in the UK next week.
