HEAVY rain is causing chaos on Merseyrail services this morning (Thursday, May 23).

Heavy rain has flooded the railway at Hooton causing disruption on the Chester and Ellesmere Port line.

As well as flooding, a tree is blocking the railway at Little Sutton causing disruptions to the Ellesmere Port line.

Train services to Ellesmere Port will be cancelled or terminated at and started back from Hooton while services to Chester may be cancelled or terminated at and started back from Rock Ferry.

A rail replacement bus service is now in operation between Rock Ferry and Chester and Rock Ferry and Ellesmere Port until further notice.

The disruption comes after the borough was issued with a weather warning from the Met Office.

The amber warning sates that rain will become “heavy and persistent” with “flooding and disruption”.
