A FACTORY in Port Sunlight was evacuated due to an “unexploded bomb” being discovered.

Police were called to the Unilever factory in Port Sunlight at around 4.10pm yesterday afternoon (Tuesday, May 21) after workmen found a suspected unexploded bomb.

Following the discovery, the Army’s bomb disposal unit were called to the factory to remove the device while staff were evacuated.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "We can confirm that officers were in attendance at Unilever in Port Sunlight after workmen uncovered what was believed to be an unexploded ordnance device yesterday afternoon (Tuesday, 21 May).

"At around 4.10pm, we received a report that a device had been uncovered by the workmen. The Army’s EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) team were called and staff were evacuated.

"We would like to thank people in the area for their patience and understanding during the incident.”
