A GROUP that raises money for local projects in Wirral has awarded more than £1,100 to a support group that helps people struggling with mental health.

Wirral SOUP held its fourth event on Wednesday, May 1 at the Lever Club in Port Sunlight.

The group consists of nine volunteers whose aim is to raise money for projects in Wirral to benefit the local community.

Any local group or individual can send in an application to be considered for a SOUP event, and a shortlisting panel chooses four to pitch on the night.

At the event, each attendee makes a donation of whatever they can afford and gets to vote for their favourite pitch while enjoying entertainment and a homemade bowl of soup.

At the event, more than £1,100 was awarded to Lisa Skinner for her project, Walk Talk Support, a support group for anyone, any age struggling with mental health or loneliness, neurodiverse or in recovery.

Lisa said: “We are thrilled to share that our team emerged victorious in the Wirral SOUP finals, securing an impressive grant of £1,115.

“This remarkable achievement has left us feeling grateful and proud.

“We extend our sincere appreciation to SOUP for their unwavering support throughout this journey.

“The event was a tremendous success, and we established valuable connections with many individuals.

“Undoubtedly, SOUP is a phenomenal organisation that has been immensely helpful to us.”

Lisa added that she plans to use the money to provide hot drinks after the walks, and a trip to Wales is being planned, Lisa also wants to produce some leaflets to spread the word. Her Facebook group already has more than 400 members.

The three other pitchers, Quirky Library, a community library, Quilt Stitch Social, a sewing group for adults with additional needs, and Reel to Real, a non profit organisation that want to harness the power of digital storytelling to confront hidden and stigmatised health issues like Hepatitus C, were all awarded £250 to help with their projects.
