LIVERPOOL is to host a Diabetes UK Wellness Walk for the first time.

The Wellness Walk will be an eight-mile circuit around some of the city’s sights as a way to get active together and promote wellbeing while raising vital funds for Diabetes UK.

Registration for the walk, which will take place on Sunday, May 19 is now open.

Clare Howarth, Diabetes UK’s Head of the North region, said: “`We are so thrilled to bring the brilliant buzz of a Diabetes UK Wellness Walk to Liverpool.

“As a scouser myself I know how much the city region gets behind events like this and I’m looking forward to it being a really special day.”

The start and finish will be at the Pier Head in front of Liverpool’s iconic Three Graces buildings and close to the famous Beatles statue.

There will be trainers on hand for a pre-walk warm-up, an MC to set the mood at the start and welcome finishers back, music on the way round, and at the finish walkers will have the chance to relax, pose for photographs, or even enjoy a massage.

Matthew Ashton, Director of Public Health at Liverpool City Council who said: “Keeping fit and being active does not have to be all about going to the gym - it’s about getting fresh air and building exercise into your daily routine.

“Wellness Walks are a simple way to boost your wellbeing, and where better to do so than Liverpool – taking in some of the world-famous sights along the way.”

Participants will receive an event t-shirt and a finisher’s medal, as well as being part of a friendly and supportive community before, during and after the event.

The participation fees are £10 for adults, £5 for 12- to 17-year-olds and it’s free for 11-year-olds and younger, with a maximum of three under 18s per adult.
