BBC Radio Merseyside has announced that a new host will be joining the breakfast show.
Kevin Duala will be the new host of the breakfast show starting from Monday, June 10.
Kevin is taking on the 6am-10am programme waking listeners up with his trademark Scouse humour along with the biggest local news and issues of the day.
A regular reporter on The One Show, Kevin is known for his broadcast work; he presented the Sunday breakfast show on BBC Radio Sussex and Surrey before coming home to appear on BBC Radio Merseyside covering for Snelly and Helen.
As part of the new show Kev will be joined by veteran journalist Phil Cooper from the BBC Merseyside Newsroom and award-winning sports journalist Giulia Bould.
She will bring all the sports headlines with Total Sport at Breakfast.
Senior Content Producer Jess Robbins and Journalism Co-ordinator Claire Bryan remain in their current production roles at breakfast.
Kevin said: “It’s official! Dreams do come true. I’m beyond thrilled to be presenting the Breakfast Show on BBC Radio Merseyside.
“What an honour to wake up the best city in the world. This is our show, not my show – and I want you to be a massive part of it.
“I’m genuinely counting down the days… I can’t wait to get behind that microphone and say “good morning, Merseyside” for the very first time.”
Phil Munns moves from the breakfast show to headline the weekend sports programme as part of the station’s investment into the Total Sport Merseyside brand.
Phil will bring the action directly to listeners on weekend match days with live and local radio commentaries for both football and rugby league.
Ben Anderson, Radio Merseyside Executive Editor, said: “Kev is born and raised in Toxteth and loves the people and places who make Merseyside what it is.
“He’s Merseyside through and through, and we’re working hard on a show that has our brilliant Radio Merseyside listeners firmly front and centre.
“With Giulia Bould launching Total Sport at Breakfast and with Paul Salt continuing to build the Total Sport Merseyside brand across the week, and now with the addition of Phil Munns bringing all of the weekend sport action, our audience are getting the very best from their favourite Merseyside voices.”
Listen to Kevin Duala on BBC Radio Merseyside weekdays 6am-10am on BBC Sounds from Monday, June 10 and Total Sport Merseyside every weekday night 6pm-8pm, and for commentaries from the Premier League, the EFL and the Super League across the weekend.
