A WIRRAL school has been rated as “outstanding” by OFSTED following an inspection.

Thornton Hough Primary School on St George's Way, Thornton Hough, received the recognition after a two-day inspection in February.

This was the first time the school had been inspected since 2011.

Headteacher, Will Lowe, said: “We are delighted to have received external recognition of our ‘Outstanding’ provision from OFSTED.

“We are incredibly proud of the children and the provision we offer and it is testament to all involved: children, staff, parents, governors, everyone in the school community.”

The school also received a letter from the Minister for Schools, Damian Hinds, congratulating them on their “very high standard of achievement” following results in the Key Stage 2 tests in 2023. Thornton Hough Primary is in the top one per cent of all primary schools in the country.

Chair of Governors, Geoff Dale, added: “Being top primary school in the borough of Wirral and towards the top in the whole country is testament to the hard work and dedication shown by everyone.

“But the true heart of what we do is ensuring our children are happy and enjoy their education.

“The amazing pastoral care and life skills developed by the children enable them to flourish.”
