A SCHOOL from Ellesmere Port and two from Chester have been featured in a list of the top 500 primary schools in the country.
The Times has compiled the list which was released yesterday (Tuesday, April 16) as families across Chester and Ellesmere Port heard which schools their children will attend at the start of the coming school year.
The list represents the top three per cent of primary schools in the country, with the total number of primary schools in England at 16,783.
Each school was assessed on their average scores in English, grammar and maths giving them an overall ranking.
The top 500 list featured a trio of schools from Ellesmere Port and Chester, including: St Mary of the Angels RC Primary School in Ellesmere Port (ranked 316th), Mill View Primary School in Upton (ranked 332nd) and Acresfield Primary School, also in Upton (ranked 120th).
Several other schools across Cheshire West also made the top 500 list, including the likes of The Delamere C of E Academy in Tarporley (ranked 14th).
The Times reported that “the latest data shows that across the country combined reading, writing and maths levels are still lower than they were before Covid”.
However, the data also highlighted “how well some schools have helped the so-called ‘lost generation’ to recover after Covid, as teachers grappled with falling attendance, a mental health crisis, overweight and screen-addicted children and even pupils turning up to school in nappies”.
