WIRRAL’S Coastguard Rescue Team have given residents and visitors an “extreme caution” warning ahead of stormy weather this weekend.
The Met Office issued the borough with a yellow weather warning as Storm Kathleen is expected to bring strong winds to Merseyside.
The warning comes into force at 8am tomorrow (Saturday, April 6) and will remain in place until 10pm.
The Wirral Coastguard Rescue Team is asking people to keep a safe distance from the coast during this period.
A spokesperson from the team said: “Stormy weather is expected this weekend. Please keep a safe distance from the coast during this period.
“Current forecasts show the the wind will be mainly blowing strongly from the south. This will give rise to strong offshore winds around The Wirral, particularly dangerous on the north shores for small vessels, wind surfers, kite surfers, kayaks etc.
“Remember, local conditions can change for the worse very quickly during the transit of low pressure storm systems so extreme caution is recommended.
“If you see anyone in danger on the coast please dial 999 immediately and ask for The Coastguard.”
