A SKELETAL puppy described as being “too weak to stand” was found dumped at a Wirral beauty spot.
On Saturday (March 23) a puppy, who was found by a member of the public in Port Sunlight River Park in Bromborough, was brought into the Friends of Birkenhead Kennels rescue.
The puppy, named Shadrach by the kennels volunteers, had mutilated ears and was so emaciated that staff were unable to determine his breed.
A spokesperson for Birkenhead Kennels said: “We had two staff members in caring and looking after all the dogs in our care when this poor boy was carried in after being dumped in River Park Port Sunlight.
“We want to say thank you to the lady who found him and brought him safely to us.
“Our two staff closed the kennels early and rushed him to the vets, where he was examined, given treatment and a special meal plan.
“This has been an upsetting day for the staff on duty seeing a dog in such a state, how could anyone knowingly starve a dog to death? Vile, wicked behaviour. And then carry him to a park to dump him because there's no way this dog walked to the park, he's so weak he can't even stand up. He must have been carried to the park by his abuser.
“We have a video of him at the vets and his tail is still wagging. After all he's been through he's still wagging his tail.
“Thankfully he is safe now and we hope he makes it through the night, he will know love and kindness now.
“This beautiful boy has now been named Shadrach, what a cute face.”
On Sunday (March 24), the rescue issued an update on Shadrach’s health on social media stating he had had a “restful night” and had eaten and played with toys.
The update said: “Thank you everyone for your well wishes and concerns. He has had a restful night, he’s eaten and kept it down which is great.
“He was so happy to see the staff his tail didn’t stop. He had a little play with his toy this morning but still can’t stand.
“Sandrach is now comfortable with one of our volunteers at home for extra TLC and will see the vet again in a couple of days. Hoping this hasn’t affected his liver or kidneys being so emaciated.”
The rescue is now appealing for anyone with information to contact them on 0151 556 1220.
