WELCOME to Behind the Lens, a feature that shines a light on the talented photographers in our Wirral Globe Camera Club group.
This week, we’re looking at Thomas Fells’ favourite photographs and hearing about his passion for photography, which is a new-found interest.
Thomas, who lives just a short walk from New Brighton, loves capturing a moment in time and the emotions attached to them.

When and why did you take up photography?
For me photography is a relatively recent adventure, I’ve almost always had a camera but I didn’t take as much time composing photos as I do now and I am still learning. Being creative is something I enjoy and photography has given me a new way to express this.

What do you love about taking pictures?
I love that when you take a photo you’ve captured a moment in time and there are memories and emotions attached to them.
Where is your favourite place to take pictures and why?
My current favourite place is along the Wirral way from Hoylake down to Parkgate, there is a lot of different subjects and opportunities to be had. Of an evening you will see the sunset behind Wales and there’s lots of different wildlife around there.
What is your favourite subject matter and why?
My favourite subject is landscape photography. I like to get up early and photograph the sunrise over Liverpool or sit quietly and watch the sunset. I enjoy going on walks and I almost always have my camera with me.

What do you enjoy about being part of our Camera Club on Facebook?
I enjoy seeing the range of different photographs taken across the Wirral and how everyone’s photos are always welcome on the page.
If you could photograph anyone/any place/anything, who/what would it be?
Growing up I had a lot of interest in aircraft and one day I’d like to go to The Royal International Air Tattoo and take some photos of the aircraft.
