Colin Edwards, aged 40, went missing from the Woodchurch area of Birkenhead on Thursday, January 11.
Following an extensive search, it was confirmed that a body was found near to Arrowe Brook Lane in Irby at around 1pm on Monday, January 29 which was identified as Colin.
In emotional tributes, his family and friends described him as a "beautiful soul" who was an “accomplished sportsman, adventurer, and a joker”.
Colin’s mum, Pat Edwards, said: “My beautiful son Colin, so innocent, the last three weeks of trauma and heartache have stolen my memories of you.
“It would have been your 41st birthday this month, and all I wanted was to wipe your tears away and make it all better for you, but I couldn't. You are safe now in the arms of the angels. May God protect you and restore the precious memories of fun and laughter we shared.”
Colin’s dad, Neil Edwards, said: “My best buddy, Col, life will never be the same without you, son.
“I want to remember you when life was full of joy and happiness, and we shared our love of badminton.
“The months before you became ill, you talked of training me to compete in the over 70s veteran tournaments. I am determined to fulfil that wish and hope you will look over me with the same pride I have for you.”
Colin’s funeral will take place at 11am at Landican Cemetery, on Arrowe Park Road, Woodchurch.
