A WIRRAL runner with cystic fibrosis is taking on the London Marathon.
Matt Strange, from Heswall, is back for the fifth consecutive year to run the London Marathon for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.
The 38-year-old was diagnosed when he was four weeks old with the disease, which is inherited and caused by a faulty gene which clogs the lungs and digestive system with mucus, making it hard to breathe and digest food.
Over the past five years he has managed to raise nearly £9,000 for the charity and says he has “no intention of stopping”.
This year's marathon is going to be one of the toughest yet for Matt as he has been suffering from a herniated disc in his back since the start of December.
He told the Globe: “This will be one of the hardest challenges I have faced. The London Marathon has always been tough, but coming into it missing a 4/5 weeks of training due to injury has made it that much harder, but it has given me that extra focus that I have needed.
“My aim is to complete it and prove that my body has no limits. I want to prove that Cystic Fibrosis can't hold me back.”
Matt has a target of £2,500 to raise for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust which will go towards supporting some of the research that is currently going on.
