A COUPLE’S wedding day is always special but imagine getting married on a unique and unusual day that only happens once every four years.
Emma-Jane, known as EJ, and Jeff Grainger tied the knot at Leasowe Castle 20 years ago on February 29, 2004 but will be celebrating their anniversary on the actual day for only the fifth time.
The couple, who live in West Kirby, got married in a leap year at Leasowe Castle after meeting on online dating site Match.
EJ said: “I was never very keen on getting married on leap day – it was Jeff’s choice.
“The years in between a leap day have always been a bit of an anticlimax but I can honestly say that when we get a real anniversary, it’s very exciting – even 20 years on!
“I have been working away in Belfast since April last year so we haven’t seen much of each other but Jeff will be flying in to visit.
“We are hoping to have a meal at restaurant Ox and then our son Alfie, who has just turned 18, will be joining us to celebrate this weekend.
“To be together on our rare special day will be a treat in itself.”
