REFURBISHMENT work has started at a beach in Wirral.

Work on the steps leading to Thurstaston Beach from Station Road begins today (Monday, February 26).

Wirral Council have said visitor numbers have increased since the last major refurbishment which took place more than 10 years ago.

It's been planned as part of a wider improvement project at Wirral Country Park, which includes resurfacing along the Wirral Way.

Work is expected to take up to four weeks to complete.

Until the steps refurbishment is finished, visitors won’t be able to access the beach by the Station Road route.

Those wanting to access the beach and foreshore will be able to via Thurstaston Slipway. However, there is no parking available or along the private access road.

For beach access with parking, use Croft Drive (Caldy) or Banks Road (Lower Heswall).
