THE bomb squad was called to a home in New Brighton yesterday after an incendiary device was found in a home.
A controlled explosion was later carried out on the device on the same afternoon, February 22.
This reportedly took place at New Brighton beach.
The device, reportedly a Second World War mortar, was destroyed by the army's bomb disposal team, who were assisted by Merseyside Police.
It was reportedly found at a property and taken to the beach as a precaution.
In a statement, Merseyside Police said: "We can confirm that a controlled explosion was carried out by EOD with the assistance of Merseyside Police in New Brighton today, Thursday, February 22.
"Earlier today, antique items were found at a house.
"Following enquiries, an incendiary device was taken to New Brighton beach as a precaution, and a cordon was put in place.
"At 3.20pm, a controlled explosion was carried out."
