WE have come to the end of February, so let's have a look back at some feel-good stories Wirral Globe has covered across the borough over the past month.

1. Dad opens coffee van in Wirral park after motorbike crash

A dad has opened a coffee van in a Wirral park after as part of his recovery from a motorcycle accident.

Robert Palmer, from Liscard, wanted to open his own mobile café in February last year but was left bed-bound for three months with nerve damage to his right arm after falling off his motorbike.

Now, almost one year later, the 55-year-old has began operating Central Park Coffee & Ice-cream from the back of his van in Central Park in Wallasey.

2. Jackson's Animal Rescue confirmed opening date for cat café

A brand new cat café is opening in Wirral next month.

Last month, the Globe reported that Jackson’s Animal Rescue was opening Wirral’s first rescue cat café to try and educate people "on the constant problem of breeding and selling cats".

Steph Oliver, who set up Jackson’s Animal Rescue in 2015, said the café, which will be located on Market Street in Hoylake, would run events, quizzes and more.

3. Dozens gather for RSPB High Tide Watch Event in Parkgate

Many people gathered at Parkgate Marsh for RSPB Dee Estuary Reserve's three-day High Tide Watch event.

The Parkgate reserve, which is owned by RSPB, is a vast salt marsh beside the former seaside promenade.

During the High Tide Watch events, you can expect to see species such as Hen Harriers (in Winter), Little Egrets (throughout the year), Merlin (in Autumn and Winter), Short-eared Owls (Autumn through to early spring) and Skylarks (in Spring).

4. Man rode bike ‘every day’ to weigh duckling at Wirral post office

A Wirral man rode his bike every day for a month to get his pet duckling weighed.

RooRaaah Mew Crumbs, 45, from Meols, took his duck, Flabberghast, to Meols Post Office on Station Approach every day throughout September 2023.

In a bid to find companionship, the detectorist incubated and looked after four ducks, who he named Flibbertigibbet, Flapjack, Flotsam and Flabberghast.

5. Dessert shop opens in Wirral for care home residents

A NEW dessert shop has opened for care home residents in Wirral.

Frozen Moments based on Arrowe Park Road in Upton will serve milkshakes, ice creams and a variety of desserts and sweet treats. 

Thomas Donohue, owner of Wirral care home and homecare company Brighter Bloom Healthcare Group, decided to open the dessert parlour to help enhance the lives of his residents as well as the local community.
