A NEW dessert shop has opened for care home residents in Wirral.

Frozen Moments based on Arrowe Park Road in Upton will serve milkshakes, ice creams and a variety of desserts and sweet treats.

Thomas Donohue, owner of Wirral care home and homecare company Brighter Bloom Healthcare Group, decided to open the dessert parlour to help enhance the lives of his residents as well as the local community.

He told the Globe: “During our regular meetings with our residents and staff we talk a lot about getting out and about and our residents speak a lot about wanting to go out for ice cream which is fine, but we were finding that nowhere was open during the day that could cater for residents and staff.

“So I thought instead of me taking the residents on selective days out I might as well buy my own place and get it refurbished and then they can visit a milkshake diner seven days a week.”

Thomas has invested more than £45,000 into Frozen Moments and has recruited 16 members of staff to help run the shop.

He said: “It’s been unbelievable. We’ve got a contract with Cheshire Farm Ice Cream and we’ll be serving ice cream, old-school desserts, sugar donuts, waffles, crepes, and milkshakes.

“Once we’re all set up, we’re going to look at rolling things out like smash burgers but at the moment I wanted to give residents what they wanted which was an external place that they could visit and have a banana split and things like that.”

Frozen Moments is open from today (Friday, February 16) will be open from 12pm until 12am Monday-Sunday.

Thomas said: “Now from midday onwards every day our residents can be brought in to have a dessert.

“It’s better because it holds around 20 people and it means we can actually get our residents out and the reason we picked this place is because it’s located between the two homes in Hoylake and Bidston.

“Once we’re up and running we’re going to arrange dementia coffee mornings and knit and knatter groups. It will be something a bit different in the area.”

As well as being open for care home residents, Frozen Moments will also be open to the public seven days a week.
