WELCOME to Behind the Lens, a feature that shines a light on the talented photographers in our Wirral Globe Camera Club group.
This week, we’re looking at Dave Mort’s favourite photographs.
The Camera Club is a fantastic mix of amateur and professional photographers who share their favourite images each week providing inspiration – and advice – for members.
Dave is Wirral born and bred and developed a love of photography when he was younger using disposable cameras on holiday.

When and why did you take up photography?
I’ve always loved images and growing up I used to try and picture in my head how I would like to take an image. I first started using the point and click disposable cameras on holiday, waited for them to come back from being developed and then see them covered in stickers saying over or underexposed! It wasn’t until years later that I picked up my first digital camera and started taking pictures, learning with a lot of trial and error - error being the main part for a long time!
What do you love about taking pictures?
I love being able to capture a moment or a place in time. Learning how to take photos taught me how to see the world around us.
Where is your favourite place to take pictures and why?
We are truly blessed in Wirral and it’s easy to take for granted living here. I love being able to capture the spots that we all know but from an angle or viewpoint that is new or different.

What is your favourite subject matter and why?
I have always had a love of landscape photography, being able to take the views home with me. I love to go out chasing the sunsets or night sky - they are always special, as each one is different and will never be seen again.
What do you enjoy about being part of our Camera Club on Facebook?
The camera club is a great place for people of all abilities, from camera phones to ‘proper cameras’, to learn and share in a supportive environment. Members can both inspire and be inspired.
If you could photograph anyone/any place/anything, who/what would it be?
The list of places that I’d love to capture is endless. I’d love to explore Iceland and its incredible landscape, in an area where the northern lights can be seen dancing in the night sky.
