A 37-year-old man arrested following a collision that led to the death of a woman in Wirral at the weekend has been released under investigation.

Emergency services were called to a report of a collision involving a Ford Mondeo saloon and a quad bike at the junction of Wallasey Bridge Road/Stanley Road and Gautby Road, near Birkenhead North Train Station, shortly before 7pm on Sunday (February 4).

The two occupants of the quad bike, a 24-year-old man and the 19-year-old woman, identified as Courtney Sampson, were taken to hospital with multiple injuries.

Courtney sadly passed away. The man has now been released from hospital and is recovering at home.

He has been released under investigation.

Earlier this week Leanne Carr, Courtney's mum, described her daughter as an "incredible angel' and said in a public social media post: "Well baby girl we went to put some flowers at where your life was taken from me and many many others who loved you so much honestly my lil lady I will do my upmost best to give you the best send off you deserve."

Floral tributes have been left at the scene. Among them is one that reads "You will be missed beyond belief. Fly high, beautiful girl."

Another read: "Rest in peace beautiful. Thinking of you and your family at this sad time xx"

There was also one which read: “Courtney, the most beautiful Angel in the sky. You will be missed by all, fly high beautiful girl. Kathy and Marty xxxx”

Another, from ‘Lewis’ read: “You will be missed and never forgotten.”

Detective Sergeant Andy Roper, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said:  “This is a complex investigation as we seek to establish what happened in the lead up to the collision and the movements of both vehicles.
