A FUNDRAISER has been set up in memory of a Wirral man described as a “loyal friend and loving family member” who was found dead after he went missing.
Colin Edwards, aged 40, went missing from the Woodchurch area of Birkenhead on Thursday, January 11.
Merseyside Police released a series of appeals asking for the public's help locating Colin including appeals for dashcam and CCTV footage.
However, despite extensive enquiries, the search was stood down after Merseyside Police confirmed a body was found near to Arrowe Brook Lane in Irby on Monday, January 29.
Officers received a report that the body of a man had been found at around 1pm which was formally identified as Mr Edwards. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
In the wake of Colin’s death, a GoFundMe page has been launched to help her heartbroken family with funeral costs and charitable donations. The page has been set up by Helen Davies, a close friend of Colin.

On the fundraiser, which has a target of £5,000, Helen wrote: “Colin's sudden death at such a young age has shocked many, not least his family.
“No one was prepared for this at all.
“We wish to raise some money to assist his family with expenses that they would not have expected to incur, and, or make a charitable donation of Pat and Neil's choice in Colin's memory.
“Colin was a superb badminton player with his own unique style of playing. He was well known within the local leagues (Wirral, Chester, Liverpool, Widnes).
“He went on to represent both Liverpool 1sts and Widnes within the Lancashire interleague. Colin also represented his county.
“Colin was a valued teammate, doubles partner, and friend of many.
“He was popular within the badminton hall and also socially.
“Colin's passing has come as a shock, he will be sorely missed by many.”
Following the devastating news, Colin’s family paid tribute to their loved one who they described as an “accomplished sportsman, adventurer, and a joker”.
Colin’s mum, Pat Edwards, said: “My beautiful son Colin, so innocent, the last three weeks of trauma and heartache have stolen my memories of you.
“It would have been your 41st birthday this month, and all I wanted was to wipe your tears away and make it all better for you, but I couldn't. You are safe now in the arms of the angels. May God protect you and restore the precious memories of fun and laughter we shared. All my love, Mum xx.”
Colin’s dad, Neil Edwards, said: “My best buddy, Col, life will never be the same without you, son.
“I want to remember you when life was full of joy and happiness, and we shared our love of badminton.
“The months before you became ill, you talked of training me to compete in the over 70s veteran tournaments. I am determined to fulfil that wish and hope you will look over me with the same pride I have for you. All my love Dad, x.”
Colin’s sister, Kate Webb, said: “Colin was a beautiful soul, and I will miss my brother so much. His sense of humour was like no other; he could make people laugh with a look; he didn't have to try.
“If you had the pleasure of meeting him, you would never forget him. I remember following him around the badminton tournaments as a teenager, and being so proud of him for competing against the best with the physical challenges he faced was a testament to his perseverance and determination.
“I am so sorry I didn't get you the help you needed, Col. I battled. You will forever be in my heart. Love always, Kate xx.”
