THE owners of a privately-owned car park in Moreton are facing fresh demands for action to clear up litter and waste by a councillor in the area.

According to Vida Wilson, the site, behind Heron Foods and the Coach and Horses pub at Moreton Cross, has been an 'eyesore' for several years and, each time the rubbish builds up, the Town Hall has to contact the owners to act.

Cllr Wilson said: “This ongoing failure to maintain this car park is not only a poor reflection on the owner of the site, it also gives a very poor impression to visitors and residents who live here.

“The last time we complained, there was action taken by the site’s owner but, sadly, they appear to have slipped back into their previous ways.”

Cllr Wilson said: “As a private site, the owner is liable under the Environment Protection Act 1990 to keep it free of litter or face penalties.

"If they don’t act this time, I'll be asking the council to send in a hit squad and send the invoice to the owners."
