ELLESMERE Port’s Poundland store is set to close just months after the brand took over the unit, following the collapse of Wilko.
The town’s Wilko store officially closed on September 17, 2023, following the retailer's fall into administration, but it was reopened less than a month later as Poundland.
Poundland bought up to 71 Wilko stores from administrator PwC following the collapse of the high street chain.
The Ellesmere Port store was one of the first 20 locations to reopen following the purchase.
However, the retailer is now looking to leave the unit.
Poundland is set to close the store on Sunday, February 11, with affected staff expected to be relocated to other nearby stores.
A spokesperson for Poundland said: "The Ellesmere Port store sadly hasn’t met our trading expectations despite all our efforts.
"While we know how disappointing this will be to colleagues, we expect to be able to find roles for them at nearby stores such as Bromborough and Chester."
