A CARE home in Wirral is appealing to the community to send 100 cards to celebrate the upcoming 100th birthday of a resident.

Carers at The Manor House Bupa Care Home in Birkenhead are asking for people to send cards to a resident, Ethel (Hetty) Griffiths, to help her celebrate her 100th birthday on February 19.

As well as hoping to collect 100 cards, Home Manager, Angela Mcard, is planning a party to celebrate Hetty’s milestone birthday with an entertainer to sing her favourite songs.

Angela told the Globe: “We are really looking forward to Hetty’s 100th birthday celebrations.

“We are hoping that our local community will send as many cards as possible to show her how truly special she is. Celebrating milestone birthdays is incredibly important to us at The Manor House – we love making a fuss of every individual resident, and Hetty is truly a character to be celebrated.”

Hetty was born and raised in Prescot, Liverpool and has two sons, Philip and David. During her youth, Hetty worked as a typist at a demolition factory in Liverpool and her hobbies included sewing, knitting, cooking and painting. Hetty continues to colour and has many drawings in her room that she loves to show to staff and other residents.

When asked about her secret to a long and happy life, Hetty said: “Keep yourself to yourself and you will stay out of trouble!”

If you would like to send a card to Hetty, please address it to: The Manor House Bupa Care Home, Moreton Road, Birkenhead, Wirral, CH49 4NZ.
