A HISTORIC pub in Neston has had a “positive response” from customers after it re-opened following a refurbishment.
Peter Clark, from Halewood, took over Greenland Fishery on Parkgate Road as operator in November 2023 after the company he worked alongside bought the pub from Punch Pubs.
After repairing and re-painting the pub, during phase one of the refurbishment, Greenland Fishery re-opened to customers on December 15.
Speaking to the Globe, Peter said: “The company have tried to keep the in keeping of the building as it is, because it is a listed building.
“When they refurbed it, it was mainly repairing and repainting.
“The floors have stayed the same but are nice and shiny. There is lots of new furniture, and a few plaques of former patrons have been put up.”
The next phase, which is “currently in the works”, will see a patio at the back of the pub made into a big open space for people to enjoy in Spring and Summer.
Since re-opening, Peter said the response from the community has been “positive”.
He added: “We’ve had a positive response from people as the pub is a lot brighter, cleaner and it’s welcoming and homely.
“It’s how everybody remembers the pub from 20 years ago.”
The pub now serves food, with a “classic” menu, said Peter.
They also run a quiz night each week for customers to enjoy.
Peter said: “I just want to say a huge thank you. Without the local community support the business wouldn’t survive, so it’s down to them that we’re doing well.”
People have took to social media to praise the new team at the pub.
One said: "The best thing about the night was the warm welcome from Pete and his staff.
"A lovely atmosphere, real fire, little pug mooching about. I really believe (and hope) that this historic pub has turned the corner".
Another said: "A very good lunch at The Greenland Fishery today - happy to recommend.
"It must be 40 years or so since I last set foot in there. The refurbishment is excellent and it is great to see new life being breathed into historic premises such as these".
