A WIRRAL pub, described as a "real gem", has been transformed after a huge £150,000 refurbishment.
The Montgomery Pub & Kitchen in Eastham Village now has new management, new decor and a new kitchen team.
Nestled away on Stanley Lane in between New Chester Road and Eastham Country Park, the pub has a beer garden and large space to the rear.
Thanks to the vision of experienced local landlord Gary Runacus and Stonegate Group, the pub is now "thriving again".
Having recruited Head Chef Daniel Billinge to lead the kitchen team, The Montgomery Pub & Kitchen now offers home cooked pub food seven days a week.
The refined menu offers small plates, loaded fries, burgers, steaks and Sunday lunches.
The tavern brings you premium beers, real ales, fine wines and gastro pub dishes cooked using fresh local produce.
There’s an open fire and cosy little snugs — with a vibrant green colour scheme alongside exposed brick walls.
Owner Gary said: "This pub is a real gem located in a beautiful little area surrounded by cottages and a church that you wouldn’t know existed.
"It’s like stepping back in time. There’s very little natural footfall though and in many respects the pub was forgotten about.
"To work with Stonegate to bring it back to life has been a wonderful project and since opening its doors again in October the feedback has been amazing.”
Quiz nights on Tuesdays and live music at weekends has been introduced too.
Gary added: "The pub has a lot of history and was originally called The Stanley before its current name.
"The great thing about working with Stonegate is that we can help save and regenerate old pubs that have failed or fallen into disrepair.
"People who know this pub are delighted to see it thriving again and it’s also been great to see people travelling from further afield to visit."
There are further plans for The Montgomery Pub & Kitchen to become one of the "finest pubs in the region" — with community initiatives and summer events in the beer garden and large carpark to the rear.
"When you’re based in a hidden away little road like we are, it’s essential we offer something very special for people to travel for", Gary said.
"We’re ideally located near Eastham Country Park and Old Chester Road, but unless you know we’re here you’ll completely miss us. We’re hoping our reputation will bring people here from far and wide and so far the signs are great.
"We want to be that pub people simply have to visit after a walk in Eastham Country Park and that place people travel miles to for a Sunday roast.
"We also want to be much more than a pub and somewhere that serves the community. Word is getting out — we just need to keep bringing the quality."
