The Birkenhead Reference Library, which is located inside Birkenhead Central Library, has lots of useful resources to do this.
They offer a drop-in service during opening hours.
If you are not in the area you can submit a research request. The first half hour of research is free and there is a charge of £12 per half hour thereafter for this service.
There is also an additional charge for commercial research.
At Birkenhead Reference Library you will find:
- 180 street directories dating from 1766
- 390 volumes of electoral registers from 1862 to 2023
- 3500 reels of microfilm including parish records, cemetery records and local newspapers
- Over 25,000 digitised photographs of the local area
- Over 16,000 local history items available on request
Opening hours are:
- Monday - 9am to 1pm and 2pm to 5pm
- Tuesday - 9am to 1pm and 2pm to 7pm
- Wednesday - 9am to 1pm and 2pm to 5pm
- Thursday - 9am to 1pm and 2pm to 7pm
- Friday - 9am to 1pm and 2pm to 5pm
- Saturday - 9am to 1pm and 2pm to 5pm
