A PERSON has been hit and killed by a train on Merseyrail's Wirral line.
The sad news was confirmed by Merseyrail this evening (Monday, January 1), with passengers warned to expect disruptions, cancellations and delays to services on the Ellesmere Port and Chester line.
A spokesman said: "Due to a person sadly being hit by a train, services on the Ellesmere Port and Chester line are disrupted. Services between Rock Ferry and Chester/Ellesmere Port have been suspended, with services terminating and starting back from Rock Ferry."
Merseyrail confirmed that a shuttle train service has been put in place between Rock Ferry and Liverpool. A rail replacement bus service is also in operation, taking passengers between Rock Ferry and Chester and Ellesmere Port.
Train users travelling to Hooton have been warned that replacement buses will stop on Hooton Road due to emergency services remaining at Hooton Station.
