THE winners of a children’s writing competition in Wirral have been announced.

During the summer, Wirral Libraries and literary arts organisation, Read Now Write Now, ran a competition for local children called Wonderful Writers.

Entrees were able to write a story up to 1000 words in any genre and their stories are now being showcased in several Wirral Libraries including Birkenhead, West Kirby, Bebington and Wallasey and online.

Charlie Lea, from Read Now Write Now, said: “This has been a wonderful project to work on with Wirral Libraries and the standard of writing from the wonderful writers has been very high. I have been so impressed with the maturity, intelligence and humour of the stories and they clearly show the amazing creativity and imaginations of our young writers in Wirral.

“Everyone who took part in the competition is, in my view, a winner and I truly hope that they carry on writing and we see their names as published authors in the future.”

Stories included a young boy playing in goal for Tranmere Rovers, a friendless shark, a magical wishing well, an adventurous leaf, a mischievous sorcerer, zombies and ghosts and a sea adventure.

Last month a storytelling event took place at Birkenhead Central Library where the Mayor of Wirral, Councillor Jerry Williams, presented certificates to the wonderful writers and an audience listened to the stories being read out by the new authors.

Earlier this week the winners, Isabella, Aidan, Lucy, and Arthur were announced and received book tokens.
