A NUMBER of bus routes were disrupted last night (October 30) following reports of anti-social behaviour on Mischief Night.
Arriva busses traveling through Leasowe and Birkenhead were diverted and disrupted due to anti-social behaviour.
Arriva took to social media platform, X, to warn users that the safety of passengers, staff, and vehicles was “paramount”.
In Leasowe, service 423 was unable to safely serve the Leasowe Estate due to “multiple incidents of anti-social behaviour” on the estate. Services diverted via Leasowe Road and Reeds Lane.
In Birkenhead, services 407, 418, 492 and 495 diverted via Worcester Road, Boundary Road and Upton Road in both direction due to “several incidents of anti-social behaviour”. The service omitted a section of Laird Street and Hoylake Road.
Richard Hoare, commercial director for Arriva North West and Wales said: “A significant number of bus windows were broken and a passenger and one of our drivers were injured during many incidents of antisocial behaviour on our network throughout the Liverpool City Region, on October 30, 2023.
“These acts are a danger to the public, our passengers and drivers, as such we diverted or stopped services for everyone’s safety.
“Antisocial behaviour is totally unacceptable, we work closely with Merseyside Travel-Safe to try and help put a stop to it.
“The details have been reported to Merseyside Police.”
Arriva also warned passengers that some services may be disrupted until November 1 due to the recent spate of incidents.
A spokesperson for Arriva added: “Due to incidents of anti-social behaviour and criminal damage to a number of vehicles across Merseyside tonight, some services may be significantly disrupted until November 1. The safety of our team, passengers and vehicles is paramount and we continue to work with travel-safe partners.”
