AN inspirational Wirral volunteer who has dedicated more than 80 years to helping those less fortunate praised the work of staff at a local health centre after going for a Covid jab.
Marjorie "Peggy" Maskrey MBE attended the Birkenhead Covid Vaccination Centre at Birkenhead Medical Building on Friday (September 22) to have her Autumn booster vaccination.
The 103-year-old is pictured with Abhi Mantgani GP and clinical lead and vaccinators Jeya Roy (nurse practitioner), Kate Deehan (nurse practitioner) Mark Williams (Paramedic) and Charlotte McAllister (Paramedic).
She was delighted with the service she received at the Birkenhead Vaccination Centre and said: "I came here three years ago at the height of the pandemic and have come here for all my vaccinations.
"The care and compassion shown here to me, and thousands of other elderlies was excellent, thank you and well done."
She first went to the mission at the age of eight and has volunteered for the past 87 years, since arriving on its doorstep with her mum Dolly Monaghan in 1928.
Peggy's work received royal recognition in 2018 when she was awarded an MBE for her services to the community in the Queen's Birthday Honours.
At the age of 16 Peggy started volunteering there and has served thousands of meals to the area's needy.
Birkenhead vaccination Centre has given over 210,000 jabs since it launched the service in December 2020.
The service was awarded “High commendation” by GP Awards in 2022 and have again been selected for GP Awards Vaccination Team of the Year 2023.
The service is open 1-6 pm Monday to Friday and 9am - 2pm on Saturday. You can book through your GP or National Booking System or drop in to have your vaccination.
Autumn Covid booster is only available to people 65 years or older, carers, immune compromised persons, and other eligible individuals. Incidence of Covid is on the rise, please have your vaccination if you are eligible and stay protected.
