A POPULAR Wirral pub has thanked its customers after The Great British Pub Awards 2023 outcome.

The Ferry Pub based on Tobin Street in Wallasey was shortlisted in The Great British Pub Awards 2023 in the Punch Pub of the Year category.

Despite not being crowned the winner, the pub said it was “extremely proud” to be featured in the national award and thanked its customers and staff for their support.

Posting on statement social media, the pub said: “Well we didn’t win the big one but we are extremely proud this morning of everyone connected with The Ferry. It’s amazing to be at the industry ‘Oscars’ and to see the pub up in lights as one of the best in the country and to be commended on the team's efforts.

“We’d like to thank the whole team here they continue to be amazing and make The Ferry go from strength to strength. This recognition is all down to them.”

The Great British Pub Award 2023 winners were announced on Tuesday (September 19) at Victoria Warehouse in Manchester. 87 different pubs selected across 16 different categories were announced as finalists in the awards with The Plough, Prestbury in Cheltenham scooping the award for Punch Pubs & Co. Pub of the Year.

The Ferry, which has been a pub for more than 100 years in Egremont and boasts views of the River Mersey and Liverpool skyline, announced that it would now be closing for recruitment from Monday (September 25).

The statement continued: “Now we look forward to a month of refurbishment from Monday and then a shiny new pub at the end of October in time for Halloween and Christmas.

“Thank you to you our Facebook family and guests for all the love and support it means the world. You’ve got five more days to come and visit us now before we close the doors for a month. Don’t be shy!”
