A MAN who attacked two police officers during an incident at a Wirral hostel for the homeless has been jailed.
Dominic Jordan, 37, of no fixed abode, appeared at Liverpool Crown Court today (Wednesday, September 13) and pleaded guilty to assaulting an emergency worker and assault.
On Wednesday August 9 this year, Jordan locked himself inside a toilet in the reception area of the YMCA, on Whetstone Lane in Birkenhead and was abusive towards staff.
Police officers attended and Jordan became aggressive, biting an officer on his arm, which caused a significant puncture wound.
He also kicked another officer in the face, but thankfully this didn’t cause a serious injury.
He was jailed for two years and four months.
Detective Inspector Emma Kerrigan said: “These two officers had to deal with a very challenging incident and put themselves in harm’s way to protect our community.
“Jordan was abusive and aggressive, causing a nasty injury to an officer’s arm, which is completely unacceptable.
“This incident demonstrates some of the extremely difficult and dangerous situations that our officers have to deal with on a daily basis.
“As police officers, they understand the risks of the job, but they should never have to tolerate violence against them when they are simply attempting to carry out their duties.
“Incidents such as this are absolutely unacceptable and have such a massive impact on the officers, their families and colleagues in the force.
“I hope that Jordan uses his time in prison to reflect on his actions.
“My message to those who carry out violence against police is clear: please remember, whatever you think of us, one day you or your families may need our help too.”
