WIRRAL author Helen Forrester has been included in a new booklet detailing the lives, history and birthplaces of amazing women across the London Northwestern Railway (LNR),
Available for free at attractions listed inside the booklet, it details the lives of 27 extraordinary women from different areas between Liverpool and Watford Junction and how their stories can be discovered by rail.
The Hoylake-born writer, who died in 2011, aged 92, became famous for her best-selling memoir of her childhood, Twopence to Cross the Mersey. It was later turned into a successful musical by Rob Fennah, Helen Jones and Alan Fennah.
Her four best-selling memoirs describe her poverty-stricken life in Merseyside before and during World War II.
Also featured in the booklet are singer and television presenter, Cilla Black OBE, and social reformer Josephine Butler.
Designed by Cheshire artist Nicky Thompson and written by author Richard Lysons, the booklet was funded by LNR and Women in Community Rail and includes short biographies and relevant attractions for passengers to visit.
Vicky Cropper-Clarke, LNR community strategy manager, said: “I am delighted to launch the Amazing Women by Rail booklet which highlights so many stories by incredible women across our rail network.
“There will be copies available at selected stations and passengers will be able to view the booklet online. I hope this encourages passengers to explore towns and cities along the line to discover the fascinating history of these remarkable women.”
