AFTER officially hanging up his whistle last month, record-breaking Wirral referee Mike Dean has already bagged himself a new role brandishing a different type of red card.

Having dished out a record 114 red cards in his refereeing career, Mike has now become the new face of the Family & Friends Railcard.

Mike said: “Football fans know I gave out my fair share of red cards in my career. But this one is less about early baths and instead about helping friends and families get a better deal on their rail tickets.

"Following a football team is a big financial commitment, and that’s why I’m delighted to be working with Railcard.co.uk to promote the fairest red card around; the Family & Friends Railcard. Remember to always carry your red card on match day… and you’re off!”

With the new top flight season kicking off this weekend, research by Railcard has revealed that football fans opting to travel via train to away matches could save an average of £50.42* per game. Based on the average ticket cost for one adult and one child attending an away game, the savings mean that a Railcard can pay for itself in just a single journey.

Catherine Lyver from Railcard.co.uk said: “The Family & Friends Railcard is perfect for fans young and old looking to experience the thrill of Britain’s greatest sporting occasions as nothing beats being there.

"Whether you’re travelling by train for football matches, netball or rugby, don your team colours and make unforgettable memories while discovering new and exciting destinations across Britain.

"Customers can play to win this season by booking in advance with their Family & Friends Railcard and can save an average of £150 per year on their train travel - it's a game changer!”

With a Family & Friends Railcard travellers enjoy 1/3 off rail fares for up to four adults when travelling with up to four kids, who can get 60% off. At just £30, it pays for itself in just a few trips.

If travelling as two adults, a senior or under 30 - you can still save on every adventure with 1/3 off on rail travel by purchasing one of nine different Railcards available from www.Railcard.co.uk.
