A MURAL tribute to Paul O’Grady has been completed in Wirral.
The legendary entertainer was born in Birkenhead but died suddenly on March 28 prompting a huge outpouring of love and tributes from across the country and beyond.
The mural, which was Commissioned by Peel L&P, was created by Wallasey artist Brezaux who said he was “honoured” to pay tribute to the late star.
The tribute features Mr O’Grady, as well as his drag persona Lily Savage against a leopard print background which Lily Savage was known for wearing. The mural sits right on the banks of the Mersey near the Woodside Ferry Terminal on the edge of the Woodside Business Park.
Speaking of the finished piece, Brezaux told the Globe: “I started the mural in mid June and took about three weeks to complete, which is longer than usual but the great British elements got in the way. The nature of spray paints means you need perfect weather conditions.
"After the initial anxiety of wanting it to be perfect, especially as it gained a lot of interest early on, I’m really happy with the finished piece. I’ve had amazing feedback and such positive comments including from Paul’s sister, so that meant a lot as well.”
The Globe shared images of the finished mural on social media which was met with 3,000 comments and more than 4,000 shares from local residents.
