FOUR people were arrested on suspicion of a firearms offence after armed police swooped on a street in Moreton. 

Police received a call at around 6.30pm on Tuesday (August 1) that four people were in a black BMW on Birkenhead Road in the town. One of them was said to have been in possession of a suspected gun.

The vehicle then left the area and there were no reports of any shots being fired.

Armed police were called to the incident shortly afterwards and four people were arrested near Chadwick Street. No firearm has been found by police at this stage.

Three men aged 17, 22, and 47 as well as a 37-year-old woman, all from Moreton, were arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm. Police are in the very early stages of investigating the incident.

Chief Inspector Simon Owen said: "This is the early stages of our investigation and as such we are looking to swiftly establish the circumstances.

"If you live locally and captured anything suspicious at around the time of this incident on CCTV or doorbell devices, come forward.

"People will understandably be alarmed to hear of such an incident, but it is vital that the community pass on what they know, so please get in touch if you have any information."
