WELCOME to Behind the Lens, a feature that shines a light on the talented photographers in our Wirral Globe Camera Club group.

This week, we’re looking at Nicky Joyce’s favourite photographs.

Nicky lives in Birkenhead and enjoys taking photographs of the great outdoors and her two children, who are developing the same passion for photography.

When and why did you take up photography?

I’ve always had a very keen interest in photography even since I was a child. I got a Canon camera about eight years ago for Christmas and I’ve loved getting out and about with it ever since. I enjoyed a fabulous photography course at Shore Cottage studio and now I use my knowledge and passion for photography to capture my surroundings and of course my two lovely children, who are now expressing an interest in photography too.

What do you love about taking pictures?

I love to use photography as a mindfulness tool. I enjoy looking at things from a different angle and exploring the details in my surroundings at that precise time. I love to look back on a photo and discover something in it that I hadn’t seen when capturing the image.

Where is your favourite place to take pictures and why?

One of my favourite places to take pictures is my garden. I can capture the small details and it’s often where I observe moments between my children that can be missed. I often take pictures of my cat in the garden, exploring her territory and capturing her natural instincts.

What is your favourite subject matter and why?

Nature is my favourite subject matter as it provides us with ever changing moods. There is beauty in each of the seasons and you don’t have to go far to find it.

What do you enjoy about being part of our Camera Club on Facebook?

I love seeing other people’s photographs and learning from them. The camera club is also a great place to seek advice from any other photographers.

If you could photograph anyone/any place/anything, who/what would it be?

If I could capture anything it would be the northern lights. A true spectacle of nature and a wonderful experience!
