A FREE festival event is coming to Birkenhead.
North Birkenhead-based community programme, Cradle to Career is celebrating its North Birkenhead residents and partners with a free, family-fun, festival extravaganza at Birkenhead Park on Saturday, July 15, from 11am.
Dubbed as a ‘North Birkenhead Celebration’ and featuring Liverpool-based electric pop trio, Stealing Sheep, the event will include creative workshops and folk dancing, the Glam-A-Ram-Bam Marching Band, a procession of performances from local artists and residents, DJs, and plenty of food on offer.
Stealing Sheep, said: "We are super excited to perform for the people of North Birkenhead in the beautiful Birkenhead Park. The history and cultural relevance of this park has inspired us to create music specially for the marching band who will perform in the procession. We also have a workshop on the day to create our very own magic morris stick dance, and we can't wait for members of the public to get involved with holding flags and learning the rhythms in our music.
“We have collaborated with Cradle to Career to create an inspirational project that we hope inspires young people to engage with the arts and explore the therapeutic and unifying spirit of music in the community."
In the lead up to the event, a number of closed creative workshops are also being run by Stealing Sheep for young people from local primary schools and community centres who have benefited from Cradle to Career, including flag making, arts and crafts, and musical rehearsals, which will all be on display in the procession.
Cradle to Career is managed by North West charity, Right to Succeed, and was launched in 2021 to transform lives in North Birkenhead, tackling inequalities in education, health, living standards, job prospects and income, with a vision that every child in the area can thrive if given the right support.
CEO of Right to Succeed, Graeme Duncan said: "We're looking forward to this celebration which has been developed by the residents of North Birkenhead.
“In the last two years, the work that Cradle to Career has done in North Birkenhead has gone above and beyond our mission to make sure that every child has the right to succeed, no matter where they live, and we can't wait to enjoy everything that July 15 has to offer to celebrate this. It’s going to be a great day."
